The Volcanic Rock Used For Wall Building

Having enlarged the patio by laying tiles in what was formerly the garden area, I decided to have a go at building some low volcanic stone walls similar to those found throughout the island.

The stones are examples of the volcanic rock which litter much of the southern part of Lanzarote - probably thrown out of the volcanoes during the eruptions between 1730 and 1736.

I collected these from just outside the boundary wall of the estate on which I live.
