Welcome to Taupo Horse Treks

Your hosts, Fearnley and Sue Tippett, combined, have 45 years' experience with horses and a deep and genuine love for these amazingly kind and forgiving creatures. At Taupo Horse Treks in New Zealand, we aim to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all who ride with us.

Whether your idea of fun is a relaxing, quiet wander through pine forest trails, or a more exciting gallop through the forest, we endeavor to provide either for you, in a safe and organized fashion.

We have a herd of 36 horses, all having their own delightful personality. Most are suitable for beginners, young or old, and are reliable and quiet. We also have a number of more advanced horses for those with previous experience. You will be accompanied on your trek by one or more of our professional guides.

Our guides are capable, careful riders, with a good knowledge of our horses and their individual personalities. Our head guide Tracy is great with the children, usually providing some laughs, with her antics on horseback. We will take children as young as 5 years of age on their own horse on the treks. Toddlers can double up with Mum or Dad. Alternatively, we can provide a 20 minute lead line pony ride, as an introduction to horse riding.

Horse Care

We work closely with our local vet to maintain good health for all our horses. Fearnley, a qualified farrier takes care of our shoeing requirements. All the horses are hot shod (the old fashioned way) on site. If you are lucky enough to catch him on the job, during your visit, you will find this most interesting to watch.

All our horses are loved, fed and cared for 365 days a year. On the job, the horses welfare is 2nd only to client safety.
